How the math works. We start from your average monthly utility bill and pull out the portion that actually goes to heating and cooling. The split is based on EIA Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS) 2020 data (space heating ~42% + AC ~9% of site energy nationally) and DOE / Energy Saver benchmarks (~47-50% of the average US home's energy bill goes to HVAC), adjusted upward for older systems which draw a larger share due to degradation and envelope losses. We then model your current equipment's real-world output using published degradation curves (AC efficiency drops ~1-2%/yr after the first few years; furnaces hold rated AFUE better) and compare it to a typical high-efficiency install (16+ SEER AC or heat pump modeled at COP ~3.0). Smart-thermostat savings of ~10% on heating and ~15% on cooling come from the ENERGY STAR Smart Thermostat verified performance data and Nest's published utility studies.

Smart thermostat included. Every High Efficiency install includes a smart thermostat, so the savings figures above assume one is part of your install. If you opt out at quote time, your estimated savings will be slightly lower.

On sizing. Industry field research (see NREL and multi-state oversized-AC studies) consistently finds that a large majority of older residential homes were installed with equipment bigger than the house actually needs, which hurts comfort, humidity control, and efficiency. This is why we insist on a free in-home Manual J load calculation (and a look at your returns, static pressure, and duct condition) before we quote a real price.

On tax credits and rebates. The federal Section 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit expired on December 31, 2025, so no federal 25C credit is available for installs in 2026. Depending on your utility and equipment selection, local or utility rebates (Empire, Liberty, SWMO co-ops, Rheem promotions, etc.) may still apply. Ask us during your in-home estimate and we'll tell you exactly which ones you qualify for.
